چکیده
This paper summarizes recents results in γ-ray astronomy, most of which were derived with data from groundbased γ-ray detectors. Many of the contributions presented at this conference involve multiwavelength studies which combine ground-based γ-ray measurements with optical data or space-based X-ray and γ-ray measurements. Besides measurements of the diffuse emission from the Galaxy, observations of blazars, γ-ray bursts, and supernova remnants this paper also covers theoretical models for the acceleration of radiating particles and their emission mechanisms in these sources.

An investigation of using hump in the Cherenkov photon lateral distribution for Gamma-Hadron separation
Simulation of gamma and hadron showers in the energy range 100GeV- 25TeV has been carried out. For a big ideal Cherenkov light array, characteristics of lateral distribution of Cherenkov photon density have been studied. Results from this ideal detector are compared with those simulated for a real TUNKA- like array to investigate experimental potential of using existence of a hump in lateral di...
متن کاملNuclear Gamma Ray Line Astronomy in the Perspective of the Integral Satellite
We present a broad overview of the principal processes and astrophysical sites of gamma-ray line production and review the main pre-INTEGRAL satellite observations to set the stage to the next European era of gamma-ray line astronomy.
متن کاملGamma Ray Astronomy: Implications for Fundamental Physics
Gamma Ray Astronomy studies cosmic accelerators through their electromagnetic radiation in the energy range between ∼100 MeV and ∼100 TeV. The present most sensitive observations in this energy band are performed, from space, by the Large Area Telescope onboard the Fermi satellite and, from Earth, by the Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescopes MAGIC, H.E.S.S. and VERITAS. These instruments have revolu...
متن کاملStatistical Issues in High-Energy Gamma-Ray Astronomy for GLAST
This paper describes the statistical issues involved in analyzing data from high-energy gamma-ray telescopes, at levels from event reconstruction to correlations of populations of astrophysical sources. Some motivation for attempting to do astronomy with high-energy gamma rays is also given, along with some of the constraints implied by operating the instrument in orbit. Specific attention is g...
متن کاملGamma Ray Astronomy and the Origin of Galactic Cosmic Rays
Diffusive shock acceleration operating at expanding supernova remnant shells is by far the most popular model for the origin of galactic cosmic rays. Despite the general consensus received by this model, an unambiguous and conclusive proof of the supernova remnant hypothesis is still missing. In this context, the recent developments in gamma ray astronomy provide us with precious insights into ...
